DevOps Engineer | ScholarPack | Lincoln | £40,000 - £50,000 | full time, permanent

About ScholarPack

We’re ScholarPack, a leader in EdTech. In fact recently we won awards for ‘Best Company of the Year’, and a ‘Highly Commended for Innovation in Education and Training’, at the Lincolnshire Tech and Innovation Awards. We started 6 years ago with 2 men in a shed, and now we have a turnover of over £4m with around 1300 customers.

ScholarPack are a successful cloud based MIS provider for primary schools.

We have an interesting challenge - a unique loading pattern, which peaks rapidly at certain times of day when schools are most active. To address this challenge we use AWS Fargate to host our Containers, and have developed an impressive scaling algorithm in Python.

Our stack includes NGINX, PostgreSQL, Centos and Docker.

Why we’re different?

Challenge is what we thrive on, and we enjoy solving problems, but culture plays a vital role here too. We make work fun and love to learn. We regularly have ‘brown bag’ lunches to share knowledge and encourage personal development through courses and events. In addition we share knowledge across sites.

Health and Wellbeing is important to us, and we encourage a good work life balance with flexible working. In the evenings we chill out with regular games nights. We have a casual dress code and always shout about and like to celebrate our successes - a love of pizza is essential.

We are about to move into brand new offices at the heart of the tech scene in the centre of Lincoln, where we aim to take a leading role in promoting and growing technology businesses.

About the Job

We are expanding fast and looking for a talented DevOps engineer, with experience in networking, configuration management and provisioning tools, to join us to help build the next generation ScholarPack stack.

You will be familiar with the DevOps culture and you’ll know all about the Phoenix Project.

Working in a growing team, you will use toolchain technologies like Packer, Ansible and Terraform in CSP environments like AWS and GCP. Infrastructure as Code is an important part of our ethos.

We have a range of projects that you could help to drive, including:-

  • Migrating our Container architecture to Kubernetes, in EKS or GKE
  • Telemetry is vital to ensure our stack is healthy. We currently use Datadog for monitoring and alerting, but we would rather be using tools like Prometheus and Grafana
  • Developing supporting services and automation tools in Python and Bash, as part of keeping the lights on

We love the Agile Lean approach, and will empower you to make decisions and build solutions.

What’s in it for you?...

  • A competitive salary with company pension
  • A flexible working environment
  • 28 days holiday a year, with the ability to buy more
  • Certified ScrumMaster training
  • Discounts on products and services through Perkbox membership
  • Easy access - close to train and bus station. Free car parking
  • Support your career development (providing training and allowing time to attend conferences and events)
  • Free fruit
